DSC6 VISUALISE

MASTERY OF LIGHT

To capture high-quality identifiable fingerprints, ridge detail must first be visualised using a combination of imaging and illumination techniques engineered to meet the endless variable and challenges presented by fingerprint photography.
DCS 6 offers examiners a comprehensive selection of illumination sources and visualisation accessories including:

Crime-lite 82S PRO UV Light Sources

Trusted at the crime scene for their powerful illumination and robust dependability, these handheld forensic light source utilise 16 UV LEDs to provide more intense UV at 280 and 365 nm; ideal for generating intense, directional UV radiation for fluorescence and R-UV applications.

Crime-lite 8X4 MK2

A multi-waveband ringlight, including 32 high intensity LEDs, 12 slot-in fluorescence viewing filters and an ambient light shielding lens bellows: this powerful tool provides illumination from UV across the visible spectrum, with 98 colour combinations to excite fluorescence and suppress backgrounds.

Crime-lite 8x4 MK 4: N-IR Imaging Ring Light

This enhanced ring light utilises our advanced Crime-lite illumination technology to provide powerful and accurate illumination for cutting-edge IR techniques, optimised for fpNatural powders with powerful Blue, Red, and IR LEDs.

Forensic Light Source (FLS)

Our FLS unit is based around a 100W halogen lamp with a 400-1000nm continuous bandpass filter, with fibreoptic light guides providing a range of advanced directional illumination options, offering the examiner the versatility to achieve results in the most challenging scenarios.

Halogen Fibre Optic Light Source and Accessories

A 150W halogen lamp with variable dimmer control, to be combined with fibreoptic light guides to provide the versatility needed to image the most challenging prints.

Light Guides

Fibreoptic light guides include: Coaxial Light Box, Goosenecks, Ring Light, Darkfield Ring Light, Transmitted/Paddle, and a Line Light – creating a flat sheet of light ideal for imaging shoeprints and lifts. These handheld guides allow the examiner to intuitively ‘paint with light’, while expert clamps allow for control and consistency when needed.

DSC6 CAPTURE

DSC6 ENHANCE

MAXIMISE EVERY DETAIL

A significant update, the DCS 6 user interface elevates the digital enhancement process, providing a clean intuitive workspace with logically organised panels providing immediate access to essential tools. For complete confidence in evidence, SHA-256 Image Tamper Detection (ITD) tracks and records every image interaction to provide irrefutable proof of authenticity and the integrity of the forensic process.

Complex Enhancements, Simply Applied

Powerful yet uncomplicated image enhancement has been central to the success of the DCS series. DCS 6 elevates this, significantly boosting enhancement potential while further streamlining workflows with improved Undo/Redo functionality, One-Click Original-Compare, and robust measurement, annotation, and output options.

Basic Enhancements

A wide range of basic enhancement techniques are included, such as:
Greyscale, Invert, AOI – Rectangle, Ellipse, Irregular, Wand, Rotate/Crop, Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Histogram, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), Filters (LoPass, HiPass, Flatten, Median, Local Equalisation, Sharpen etc.), Image Mathematics (Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide And, Or, Xor etc.)

Advanced Enhancement Toolboxes

Application-specific enhancement toolboxes ensure the value of every fingerprint is maximised, while enhancing efficiency and throughput.
Enhancement toolboxes include:
3D/SSP, Black Gel, Colourise, Dust, Fluoresce, Grease, GV/PD, Irregular Background Removal, Lifts, Metal Deposition, Ninhydrin, Powders, Superglue.

DCS 6 IMAGE TAMPER DETECTION (ITD)

For complete confidence in fingerprint evidence
Providing unwavering trust in the forensic process, the DCS 6 Image Tamper Detection system features SHA-256 hashing and comprehensive audit logging, to provide irrefutable proof of image integrity from capture to court.

Logging every enhancement step from capture to save/output
Every action performed on an image within the DCS 6 or DCS RUVIS system, from the initial capture settings to each enhancement applied and the final output format, is automatically recorded with a timestamp and user identification. The detailed log allows examiners to precisely understand and replicate the entire image processing workflow, ensuring the process is transparent and the results can be independently verified.

DCS S-I-S

Standalone Imaging Suite: access DCS Software Tools from any PC.
For the first time, the powerful DCS imaging suite, with its full post-capture enhancement capabilities and ITD Audit Trail, can be remotely installed and operated on a separate PC, independent of the DCS 6 workstation.
This enables laboratories to seamlessly separate capture and enhancement processes, perfectly matching their desired workflow and operational requirements.

Utilise an Array of Time-Proven Imaging Techniques to Unlock the Potential of Every Print

DCS 6 builds on tried-and-trusted imaging techniques, empowering examiners to reveal hidden prints, isolate details, and capture courtroom-ready evidence.

A powerful and effective technique, capable of eliminating background interference.
While RUVIS has long been a recognised fingerprint visualisation technique, recent advancements in component technology now enable examiners, for the first time, to achieve DCS-quality fingermarks using this powerful method.

RUVIS: Mitigating Risks for Unprecedented Detail
Shortwave UV poses health and DNA degradation risks, necessitating careful workflow planning and full PPE provision with DCS 6. However, this trade-off is balanced by RUVIS’s powerful capability to non-destructively reveal exceptional detail from latent or minimally treated fingerprints, especially challenging backgrounds, enabling enhanced forensic analysis.

Infrared Reflectance and Fluorescence Imaging
Utilising the Crime-lite 8×4 Mk4 or the halogen light source, infrared imaging provides examiners with another powerful ‘beyond visible’ technique to reveal high-quality fingerprints while effectively suppressing background interference.
Under IR imaging conditions, background surfaces often appear white as they reflect IR radiation. Conversely, certain chemical treatments such as Physical Developer and specific powders absorb IR, causing them to appear black. Furthermore, foster+freeman’s specialist fpNatural 2 fingerprint dusting powder uniquely fluoresces brightly in the infrared when illuminated with red light, completely eliminating interference from many backgrounds.

Cylindrical Surface Unwrapping
Designed to capture high-quality images of fingerprints from the cylindrical surfaces of bullet casings, pens, and hand tools etc., the CSU uniformly rotates items of evidence while the DCS 6 captures, stitches and blends a series of images together to create a single 2D image of the fingermark.

With illumination being provided by the Polarised Light Tunnel (PLT), items of evidence that had previously presented a significant challenge to forensic photographers can now be quickly and easily ‘unwrapped’ for examination and enhancement.
